Label text:Rebecca Silverthorn Chisholm was born of United Empire Loyalist lineage in Etobicoke Township, York County Ontario. She was the daugther of John Silverthorn and Ester Cowin from New Jersey who at first settled in the Niagara District. She married William Chisholm on May 23, 1812.
When the Chisholm family was preparing to pass Erchless Estate to the town of Oakville to be used as a historical site, the family sold some family heirlooms to relatives, which is how the donor's mother acquired this portrait of Rebecca Silverthorn Chisholm. George Chisholm Pyron (donor) was given the portrait upon the death of his mother. He was told that the unknown artist was an itinerant painter who prepared portraits to be completed by adding the faces of the subjects. This was likely painted around 1835.
