Label text:Made to raise money for the new Methodist Church, Oakville built in 1856-1857; participants paid 25 cents to have their names embroidered; embroidered with the names of Oakville residents; the quilt was auctioned after its completion. It was bought by Mr. William Wass for $50.00. Upon the death of Mr. Wass' daughter, Miss Rebecca Wass, the quilt was given to Mrs. William Busby.
DescriptionSixty (12") squares with twenty-four setting triangles around perimeter; burgundy and yellow chain-stitch embroidered names of patrons; burgundy cotton backing with cream eight point star bearing additional signatures, surrounded by four squares also having more signature; one thousand one hundred and twenty one signatures in total.
