Label text:Page 13 - a review of an exhibition of Juliet's work, in New York.
(translated from review):
"In a highly personal and, consequently, very distinctive style, Juliet Chisholm presented at Les Salons des Independants in New York a truly natural portrait of Bessie. The buxom housekeeper who sits by a window looking onto the countryside, her eyes modestly lowered, a basket full of fruit beside her, symbolizes the hard and long labout which, once done, leads the reward, a calm serenity which accompanies a sense of accomplishment.

"This figure could be the emblem of Canada itself, the author being from that country. She was born in Oabielle (Oakville), Ontario"

"After studying painting for two years, under Kennet, Hayes and Miller, Juliet Chisholm joined the Society of Independant Artists where she had her first exhibition. Another of her paintings, titled Composition, was presented at the American show."

"it is evident that the young artist has not yet mastered her means of expression. They will certainly develop over the course of her artistic career; but she already possesses a very deep sense of her intimate self. She shows who she is expresses what she sees and what she feels with an instinctive mix that has not yet been tinted by outside influences."

"Most of all, Juliet Chisholm still feels the indelible mark of her native country. In a very Canadian way, her work stands on its own through a highly suggestive and conclusive sense of simplicity and archaism."
