Label text:Originally released in 1920, the game of Military Flag Whist is a twist on the traditional British card game Whist. Remarkably sociable and competitive, groups of anywhere from 8 to 40 people would gather at local halls to play across multiple tables, competing for world domination!
Teams of four were assigned a table and worked together as a country. Two players would leave home and travel to other tables in order to defeat other countries, while two players stayed back to defend their own. The game is primarily a trick taking game, attempting to win the most rounds by playing cards of higher value than the opposing team, with trump being decided by the suit of the last card dealt. Before the game began, a designated MC created time cards that established a schedule in which teams/countries would compete.
The traditional score cards of Whist were replaced in this version by the use of National flags which displayed the number of victories won by each country/team in play. The growing number of these flags at each table would create visual excitement and added fun as players would boast as they carried the flag of a defeated enemy country back to their home table. Once all rounds are played, the team holding the most flags wins!
