Royal Crown Derby

Royal Crown Derby was established in 1750 in Derby, England. Originally know was 'Derby Porcelain', it became 'Crown Derby’ 1773. 'Royal' was added in 1890. Though founded by Andre Planche and William Duesbury, the business was developed by Duesbury and John Heath, a banker, and later by Duesbury alone.

In 1773, King George III granted the company permission to use the royal crown in the backstamp.

In 1815, Japanese Imari patterns were introduced and became very popular.

Queen Victoria appointed Crown Derby the 'Manufacturers of porcelain to Her Majesty" in 1890 and royal warrant granted them the title "Royal".
